Animal Nutrition
Department of Animal Nutrition was established in the year 1958 with the establishment of Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur. Postgraduate programme was started in the year 1978-79 and Ph.D. programme was started in 2003-04. Five students have completed Ph.D. programme and 63 students have completed M.V.Sc. programme.
This department is having feed analytical laboratory which caters the need of livestock owners, feed manufacturers, poultry farm owners, Government Department and individual farmers. This department also provides consultancy services for preparation of livestock and poultry feed, low cost feed formulation. Farmers training programmes, namely on-farm demonstrations, popularization of use of unconventional feed, green fodder production are carried out.

Departmental Research Activity
- NAIP-MM project on mechanization of experimental plots, Co-operating Centre, Nagpur
- Assessment of mineral profile relationship of animal, soil, feed and fodder in the state of Maharashtra for improvement of livestock production potential.
Agency Projects:

- Efficacy of feed boost on nutrient utilization, rumen profile and milk yield of cattle.
Ongoing Agency Project:
- Studies on supplementation of chelated mineral mixture (Prathinmin) at various stages in the cattle under field conditions.
- Outreach project on estimation of methane emission under different feeding systems and development of mitigation strategies.
Departmental Extension Activity
- Teaching: This department carries UG, PG and Ph.D. teaching.
- Research: This department has a PG and Ph.D. programme in which two students for PG and Ph.D. conduct the area specific need based research on livestock and poultry productivity improvement. This department also conducts industry sponsored research trials/ agency schemes which also helps in resource generation of the department.
- Extension: This department is actively involved in various extension activities like participation of faculty in farmers rally, exhibitions, farmers training programme, training programme for educated unemployed, T.V. & radio talks, publication of leaflets and bulletin for transfer of technology from lab to farm.
This department is having well equipped undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory and Feed Technology Unit.
